Ask Jes - More than Skin Deep
Dear Jes,
I’ve had every spa and beauty treatment you can imagine but I keep coming back to the fact that even though I look good, I don’t “feel” good inside myself. I look around at other people and they seem to be having a great time in their lives. I want to be one of those people but don’t know how. Can you help me?
Wanna Feel Good
Hello - Feel Good,
The old adage “beauty is only skin deep,” certainly applies in your case. The best thing about spa and beauty treatments is that they are good tools to help you feel better inside. So you’re definitely on the right tract by gifting yourself with trips to the spa. One huge benefit of health and beauty treatments is the relaxation factor. Any treatment done in a quite, calm atmosphere is intended to act as a de-stressor. The idea is to take the calm feeling place you get to during your treatment back out into the world with you. This can’t happen if you’re not right within yourself. What is missing for you is a deep feeling of contentment which comes from self acceptance. My suggestion is that the next time you go to the spa, turn yourself inside out and let your inner self receive the treatment. While you’re receiving the treatment think about what is holding you back from loving yourself fully and living the life that would bring you inner happiness.
Now, the most important thing I have to say to you is this - do anything you can to avoid comparing yourself to others. Comparison is always a dead end street. You can’t really know what is going on inside another person so comparing yourself to others is more likely to spotlight your own unhappiness. You are unique and if you give yourself the consistent opportunity to see yourself in a positive light, before long you’ll be feeling beautiful inside and out.
Enjoy Yourself,
Jes Ryn
